“Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone – we find it with another.” Thomas Merton
My primary therapeutic approach to working with couples is Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT is a short-term approach (8-20 sessions), developed by Dr. Sue Johnson in 1988. The approach utilizes our understanding of attachment and bonding to address the core issues that disrupt adult romantic relationships. The effectiveness of EFT is underscored by decades of research with 70-75% of couples moving from distress to recovery, and approximately 90% reporting significant improvements in their relationship. Studies have also demonstrated that EFT is 45-60% more effective than other types of couples therapy.
“Romantic love is not the least bit illogical or random. It is the continuation of an ordered and wise recipe for survival. We now have a map that can guide us in creating, healing and sustaining love. This is a consummate breakthrough.”
